Braun Series 9 Shaver
Every aspect of the Braun Series 9 shaver speaks quality. The cutting edge technology is assembled in a beautifully crafted product that works as good as it looks. Each part of this shaver is made with aesthetics, comfort and usability in mind – a well-designed user interface, thumb rest and overall grip make using the product a joy.
- Improved shaving head – comprised of four cutting elements, two foils and two trimmers. These elements are cleverly combined to deliver the cleanest shave through the sonic technology that adapts to the density of the beard. The Braun Series 9 shaver can mow through a three day beard in a fraction of the time that other shavers do
- Flexible cutting elements – work individually to read the contours of the face for a clean and even shave.
- Efficient – yet comfortable shave devoid of the usual problems of razor burn or cuts.
As expected from Braun, the operation of the shaver is intuitive and simple. You simply press the big power button when you want to start the shaver then select the shaving mode that you want – either wet or dry.
This shaver is especially useful for people who do not like shaving everyday but skip a day or two. The Braun Series 9 shaver is strong enough to handle overgrown hairs unlike the conventional shavers that can only do so much.
The noise levels of this shaver are significantly lower than that of other products of a similar class and the smooth vibrations provide a calming and relaxing feeling to your shave. Overall, this is a good quality shaver that should serve you well for a long time – something that will justify the price that some might find beyond their reach.
The Braun Series 9 – 9040s is the most efficient and comfortable shaver that has been successfully tested on overgrown beards (up to three days). The intelligent SyncroSonic ™ technology delivers Braun 40,000 cutting motions in the minutes for the most comfortable shave and an incredible feel to the skin. (FPA)
In addition to this, the Braun Series 9 Shaver is ergonomically designed and reliable as you would expect from the renowned German workmanship. The shaver comes with SyncroSonic Technology that delivers 40,000 cross-cutting actions that adjust the power according to the thickness of the beard.
In addition to this, the HyperLift &Cut Trimmer technology that captures difficult to reach hairs by lifting them and then cutting them to size. The areas around the neck and chin are particularly difficult to shave and that is where this technology comes in. These difficult to access areas of the body present a problem because the hairs are usually lying flat on the skin and cannot be easily shaved using conventional equipment. After years of research, Braun has been able to solve this problem using the HyperLift&Cut technology.
Hair growing in different directions can present a major problem when shaving and can lead unintentional cuts. In addition, the evenness of the shave will be compromised when using a conventional shaver on uneven hair. That problem is solved in the Braun Series 9 Shaver using the Direct&Cut trimmer which captures all that multi-directional growth in one fell swoop leaving your face feeling clean and smooth. The Direct&Cut blade is located right at the middle of the shaver which is an indicator of its importance in the cutting action.
Comparing Braun Series 9 -9040s Shaver & Philips 9000 Shaver
The market for electric shavers is clearly dominated by two brands: Braun and Philips. We compare the Braun Series 9-9040s and Philips 9000 electric shavers in terms of shave quality and technical features.
That Philips and Braun have dominated the electric shaver market is a surprising thing because each follow completely different design concepts. We look at two flagship brands – the Braun Series 9-9040s and Philips 9000 electric shaver and compare their strengths and weaknesses.
The Braun 9040s and Philips 9000 electric shaver are two different concepts that aim at producing one result – a perfect shave. It is really amazing that these two concepts have managed to be equally successful in the market.
When you look at the Braun design, you will notice that the cutting head is aligned horizontally in the classic way. The head and shear elements in the Braun shaver are free to move in all directions. The Philips electric shaver takes a totally different approach that has been its hallmark for decades – the blades are housed in three circular heads and are free to move as a whole entity.
Shaving with Braun or Philips
Shaving with either the Braun 9040s or the Philips 9000 shaver is a totally different experience. Each shaver has a particular manner in which to go about the shaving. The Braun series 9 shaver is a wet shaver that one uses in a straight, up and down motion.
On the other hand, the Philips 9000 shaver is used in a totally different way – you must make small circular motions as you shave or your stubble will not be removed. It takes some getting used to, but the results are satisfactory once you do.
Shaving with the Braun electric shaver is straight forward and many people are accustomed to shaving in this up down fashion. If fact, a regular user of the normal shavers will be more likely to choose the Braun shaver as the better one between the two. This choice will surely be based on the fact that they have become accustomed to that mode of shaving.
It is obvious that there are many people who prefer the Philips shaver and who would say negative things about the Braun. Therefore, preference in some cases will be based on what style of shaving the person is normally accustomed to.
The only flaw that has merit with the Philips shaver is when using it in the upper lip area of the face. This area will require more vigorous shaving action for there to be effective hair removal. Users have reported good results when using the Philips 9000 shaver with shaving cream which means that it can be used for wet shaving too.
Cleaning – How easy is it for Braun or Philips Shavers?
Cleaning the Philips shaver is much easier as all you have to do is place the head for a few seconds under running water. With the Braun shaver, it gets a little tricky as there is significantly more beard under the blades. The blade head can however be removed and the hair tapped out.
This difficulty in cleaning is the reason why the Braun shaver comes with a top quality cleaning station while the Philips shaver does not. These cleaning stations, while expensive, have a few distinct advantages. The cleaning stations provide a regular storage area, act as the charging stations and you will be assured that the device is always hygienically clean and ready to use at all times.
On the flip side, the cleaning stations require cleaning cartridges that must be changed on a regular basis which can be a daily hassle. These cleaning cartridges for the Braun shaver are prefilled disposable cartridges that must be bought every time they are depleted.
Philips shavers have an advantage in this area as the cleaning liquid comes in refillable bottles. Apart from the environmentally friendly aspect, they are cheaper to replenish as the cost of the packaging is reduced.
Using the cleaning station must be done immediately after shaving because it takes a while – this is a disadvantage especially if you are pressed for time. Both devices are easy to clean under a tap but this will have a negative effect on the life of the blades.
Performance of both razors is fairly good and some tests have shown them to last for almost a week without requiring any further charging. If you are using the devices with a cleaning station, they will always be charged as the stations have a dual purpose of charging as well as cleaning the equipment. If you are going for long trips it would be advisable to carry along a normal cable just in case the shavers are not on full charge.
It not always a good sign when a review is not able to conclusively say which of two products is the best. That is the dilemma we are face with when it comes to the Braun Series 9-9040s and Philips 9000 shavers.
These shavers remind us of the PC and Mac wars. Both have a large and almost fanatical following who swear that their preference is the best. These devices are definitely top notch and meant for the upper class who have certain tastes. The quality of the shavers is very high but each uses a very different concept and you are advised to choose the concept that best fits you.
